Event of the Day: New York Yankees v Minnesota Twins

 Our event of the day...

is the first of the Major League Baseball Wild Card games, with the New York Yankees up against the Minnesota Twins in the American League Wild Card game at Yankee Stadium, New York. In the Wild Card games, two teams from each league (American and National) who have the two best winning percentages (not including the three division winners from each league) play a one-off elimination match at the end of the regular season. The winners will then play the top seed in the Division Series.

Tensions are sure to be high in this one-off, season-defining game. Last time out the Yankees lost 2-1 to the Toronto Blue Jays in the same venue as tonight’s match. Meanwhile the Twins ran out 5-1 winners against the Detroit Tigers at Target Field in Minneapolis. However, with home advantage and a superior win record this season (91 to Minnesota’s 85) the Yankees should be favourites for the win. In a one-off game, however, anything can happen which is why tonight’s fixture has plenty of intrigue.

Honourable mentions...

around the globe go to the continuing FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Montreal. Today’s action includes Men’s and Women’s Qualifications. In cycling, it’s the UCI Europe Tour events Tre Valli Varesine in Italy, and Sparkassen Munsterland Giro in Germany. In tennis, the ATP and WTA China Open continues in Beijing as well as the ATP Japan Open in Tokyo. It is day three of the 2017 Unibet World Grand Prix Darts.

Whatever you're watching, enjoy!
