Event of the Day: 2018 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony

Our event of the day is the opening ceremony of the 2018 Winter Olympics at the Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium in Pyeongchang. The stadium was built specifically for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 23rd Winter Olympic Games, the first to be held in South Korea. The Parade of Nations will be led by the delegation from Greece, where the ancient Olympics were conceived; and concluded with the host nation South Korean team joining the North Korean team, marching together under the Korean unification flag.
Athletes from  a total of 92 National Olympic Committees will compete until February 25th in 15 sports: alpine skiing, biathlon, bobsleigh, cross-country skiing, curling, figure skating, freestyle skiing, ice hockey, luge, Nordic combined, short track speed skating, skeleton, ski jumping, snowboarding and speed skating. These winter Olympics will feature a record 102 events, thanks to four new disciplines been introduced: big air snowboarding, mixed doubles curling, mass start speed skating and mixed team alpine skiing. We can expect a fitting ceremony for the greatest international event for winter sports.

It’s the second day of the 2nd Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpa, Dhaka. Afghanistan face Zimbabwe in their 1st ODI at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah. Elsewhere in the NBA, the Philadelphia 76ers play the New Orleans Pelicans at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia; while the Boston Celtics take on the Indiana Pacers at the TD Garden in Boston. In NHL action, there’s a duel between the Winnipeg Jets and the St. Louis Blues at the Bell MTS Place in Winnipeg; and a clash between the Dallas Stars and the Pittsburgh Penguins at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. It’s Day 2 of the ISPS Handa World Super 6 Perth at the Lake Karrinyup Country Club in Perth, as well as Day 2 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am golf tournament at Pebble Beach. It’s the fifth day of the Open Sud de France at the Arena Montpellier in Montpellier; and Day 5 of the Ecuador Open in Quito.
