Event of the Day: Manchester City versus Liverpool

Our event of the day is the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final between Manchester City and Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester. After Liverpool shocked Pep Guardiola’s side last week at Anfield by winning 3-0, City have got a huge hill to climb if they are to progress any further. Liverpool meanwhile, will know scoring one goal will mean City will have to score five to avoid getting knocked out of the competition. Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool team put in a scintillating first half performance last time, lead by star man Mohamed Salah, who scored the first of three goals.

It is not out of the question though for this Manchester City side to overturn the deficit and if any team is going to, Pep Guardiola’s team look like the ones to do it. Throughout the season they have looked unstoppable and are just one win short of claiming the Premier League title with five games to spare, a feat they could have achieved on Saturday had they not let a two goal lead slip against Manchester United. Sergio Aguero is back for City, and the fans will be hoping he can make a swift return to form to help his team overcome this deficit. For Liverpool, there are a number of injury concerns with Salah, Andy Robertson and Alberto Moreno all having late fitness tests. Despite how improbable it may seem, there is a general feeling given their strength, that this Manchester City side cannot be written off, although Liverpool will hope to have something to say about that.

Honourable mentions around the globe go to the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in Australia, which goes into its 6th day of competition. Highlights of the day will be the men’s 400m final, the continuation of the men’s and women’s hockey competitions and another action packed day in the pool. Elsewhere in the UEFA Champions League, the return leg of the quarter-final between Roma and Barcelona in Rome takes place. In the EFL Championship, Aston Villa face Cardiff City in Birmingham whilst in cricket’s IPL, two winners from the first round of matches, the Chennai Super Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders face off in Chennai. In the NBA, the Utah Jazz host the Golden State Warriors whilst the Boston Celtics travel to Washington, D.C. to play the Wizards. In MLB, the Miami Marlins face the New York Mets at Marlin Park in Miami, Florida.

Whatever you’re watching, enjoy!
