Event of the Day: Green Bay Packers v Detroit Lions

Our event of the day

is the NFL game between the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field. The two teams currently occupy second and third respectively in the National Football Conference North division but neither side are in the best form at the moment. The Packers have struggled since losing their first-choice quarterback Aaron Rodgers to injury with a broken collarbone and have lost their last two games. The Lions have been inconsistent so far this season with a record of 3-4 and will look to improve on the 20-15 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers at Ford Field last week – a game in which they didn’t score a single touchdown. Both sides will do everything they can to reverse their fortunes in tonight’s game.

For the Packers, the Lions seem to be the ideal team to regain their form from earlier in the season. They have beaten their opponents 25 times of the last 26 times they have played them at home and have 19 wins from the last 23 times the two sides have met. However, if they are going to continue this trend they will need to do so with Brett Hundley pulling the strings as opposed to Rodgers. A bye last weekend will have given them more time to work on new combinations with the stand-in quarterback. Although currently on a three-game losing streak, the Lions have shown a lot of character by reducing some large deficits and if they can take the lead against the Packers today they will feel they can get something from this game.

Honourable mentions

around the globe go to the NBA as the Golden State Warriors host the Miami Heat at the Oracle Arena. The Heat have struggled so far this season with just three wins and currently sit twelfth in the Eastern Conference while last season’s champions lie in third position in the Western Conference with a 7-3 record. There are six NHL games going on today, including the Dallas Stars versus the Winnipeg Jets at the American Airlines Center. It’s the first round of the FA Cup as Chorley play Fleetwood Town at Victory Park while Patronato face Newell’s Old Boys in an Argentine Primera División - Superliga Argentina game at the Estadio Presbítero Bartolomé Grella.

Whatever you’re watching, enjoy.
