Event of the Day: England v Australia

Our event of the day
is the rugby union clash between England and Australia at Twickenham Stadium in London. This is the second of England’s three Autumn International Test matches at Twickenham during the Old Mutual Wealth Series. Last week they beat Argentina 21-8, and next Saturday they will face Samoa. Australia have won their past four Test matches – against Argentina, New Zealand, Japan and Wales. The Wallabies will play one more game after this one; next week, they will face Scotland at Murrayfield. Last year in the corresponding fixture to today, England recorded a 37-21 win over Australia, which was their fourth successive triumph against them in 2016. However overall, the Australians have won three games more out of the 48 Test matches played between the sides since 1909 – they have 25 victories compared to England’s 22, whilst one match has been drawn.
The English side is looking to build on their impressive run of 21 wins in their past 22 international matches – the only defeat came in March this year to Ireland in the final game of the Six Nations. Owen Farrell returns to the team at inside centre, while wing Jonny May is fit again. Anthony Watson will start at full-back, as he switches from the wing due to Mike Brown been concussed against Argentina. Australia have had to make a late change due to lock Adam Coleman suffering a thumb injury and he will be replaced with debutant Blake Enever. All is set for a thrilling match at Twickenham Stadium.

Honourable mentions
around the globe go to the English Premier League that resumes after the international break. The match of the day is the North London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium in London. The Gunners are looking for the sixth home win in a row since the start of the competition, for the first time since season 2007-08. In other international rugby union matches, Wales face Georgia at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff; Scotland host New Zealand at Murrayfield in Edinburgh; and Ireland await Fiji at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium. In the quarter-finals of the 2017 Rugby League World Cup, Tonga play Lebanon at the Christchurch Stadium in Christchurch; and New Zealand take on Fiji at the Wellington Regional Stadium in Wellington. More derby matches are scheduled in football’s big leagues: in Serie A it’s the clash of Roma and Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome; and in La Liga it’s the Madrid derby between Atletico and Real at the Wanda Metropolitano. NBA action brings the duel of the Memphis Grizzlies and the Houston Rockets at the FedExForum in Memphis.
