Event of the Day: Nitto ATP Finals Day 8

Our event of the day
is the last day of the 2017 Nitto ATP Finals at the O2 Arena in London. This is the final event of the season on the 2017 ATP World Tour and a showdown between the year’s best singles and doubles players. In the first semi-final of the singles tournament, David Goffin staged another shocking result following his victory against the world number one, Rafael Nadal, in the group stages, though the Spaniard was battling with injury. The Belgian was unexpectedly able to win against world number two Roger Federer and therefore secure his first opportunity to challenge for the title at the World Tour Finals. After losing the first set, he showed great character to turn the match around and come out on top, winning 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.

In the final Goffin will face Grigor Dimitrov who put in a strong performance against Jack Sock in the second semi-final, winning the duel 4-6, 6-0, 6-3. The Bulgarian has got the upper hand in seven of his eight duels with Goffin, including a convincing 6-0, 6-2 win in the group phase of this tournament. In the deciding match of the doubles tournament, last season’s winners Henri Kontinen of Finland and John Peers from Australia defend the title against the Polish-Brazilian pair of Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo. The champions defeated Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares in the semi-finals with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 victory; whilst Kubot and Melo recorded a 6-1, 6-4 win against Ryan Harrison and Michael Venus. It will be a great day of tennis to end the season.
