Event of the Day

Our event of the day is Day 6 of the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Today’s programme brings plenty of action and medals in numerous disciplines. In alpine skiing, there’s the final of the Men’s Downhill competition at the Jeongseon Alpine Centre. Run 1 and Run 2 of the Women’s Giant Slalom at the Yongpyong Alpine Centre. In biathlon, there is the Men’s 20km Individual event and the Women’s 15km individual event at the Alpensia Biathlon Centre. On the ice of the Gangneung Ice Arena there is an exciting Pairs Free Skating event. Pairs from the Soviet Union or Russia have won 13 of the last 14 Olympic competitions, but Canadian and Chinese pairs were victorious in the last three World Championships.
The entire Men’s Snowboard Cross competition, from the seeding round up to the finals, will be held at Bogwang Phoenix Park. At the Gangneung Oval, there’s the Men’s 10,000m race in speed skating. The Alpensia Cross-Country Centre will host the Women’s 10km Free event. More medals will be won during the Team Relay in luge at the Alpensia Sliding Centre. One of the other exciting events of the day are the ice hockey matches of the preliminary round between the Czech Republic and South Korea at the Gangneung Hockey Centre; and the meeting between Switzerland and Canada at the Kwandong Hockey Centre. It is an action-packed and thrilling day of Olympic action from Pyeongchang.
Honourable mentions around the globe go to the fourth day of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament at the Ahoy Rotterdam arena in Rotterdam. The round of the last 16 delivers the clash between home players Robin Haase and Tallon Griekspoor. The highlight of the day however is the match between number one seed Roger Federer and Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany. It’s the opening day of the PGA Tour golf tournament Genesis Open at the Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles; and the opening day of the NBO Oman Open at the Al Mouj Golf in Muscat. In Super League, Hull Kingston Rovers welcome Catalans Dragons to the KCOM Craven Park in Hull. There’s a number of UEFA Europa League first leg matches of the elimination phase. FC Copenhagen host Atlético Madrid at the Telia Parken, while Lyon take on Villarreal at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais in Décines-Charpieu in the pick of the round of 32 games. In the NBA, the Milwaukee Bucks come up against the Denver Nuggets at the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee. In the NHL, the Pittsburgh Penguins clash with the Los Angeles Kings at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, whilst the Minnesota Wild face the Washington Capitals at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul.
