Event of the Day: The Masters Day 4

Our event of the day is the fourth and final day of the Masters Tournament at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. The first major championship of the year enjoyed a sensational third day of golf yesterday with seven out of the world’s top ten fighting it out for the coveted green jacket. Patrick Reed on 14 under leads Rory McIlroy by three shots. Rickie Fowler (-9), Jon Rahm (-8), Henrik Stenson (-7) Bubba Watson (-6), Marc Leishman (-6) and Tommy Fleetwood (-6) are all in the mix. Big names such as Jordan Spieth (-5), Dustin Johnson (-4) and last year’s finalist Justin Rose (-3), are all probably a little too far back.

Crowd favourite and four-time champion, Tiger Woods, who is after his first title since 2013, is well behind on 4 over. Defending champion Sergio Garcia missed the cut and ended his participation already after Day 2, as the Spaniard failed to improve on a poor opening day where he carded a 13 on the 15th hole, tied for the worst score in Masters history on any hole. Along with Garcia, who became the second straight defending champion to miss the cut, the competition ended for two more previous winners, Danny Willett (2016) and Charl Schwaltzer (2011). It should be a thrilling final day at the Masters.

Honourable mentions around the globe go to the Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix at the Bahrain International Circuit. This is the second race of the 2018 season, Sebastian Vettel won the Australian Grand Prix two weeks ago. Vettel is in pole position with his teammate Kimi Räikönen in 2nd, reigning champion Lewis Hamilton starts in 9th position after a five place grid penalty. In La Liga, there’s the big Madrid derby between Real and Atlético at the Santiago Bernabéu. It’s the final day of the WTA Volvo Car Open at the Family Circle Tennis Center in Charleston.
