Event of the Day: UFC 217 - Michael Bisping v Georges St-Pierre

Our event of the day

is the UFC 217 fight between British fighter Michael Bisping and Canadian Georges St-Pierre for the middleweight title at Madison Square Garden in New York. While Bisping is the current holder of the belt, eyes will also be on St-Pierre as he bids to become only the fourth UFC fighter to hold belts in more than one weight class. It’s a fight that many people thought would never happen and with a lot on the line it promises to live up to the hype. Bisping comes into the event on a five-fight win streak including his impressive victory over American Luke Rockhold to claim the middleweight title with only 17 days’ notice.
What makes the fight even more extraordinary is that former welterweight champion St-Pierre is making his comeback from a four-year retirement, with his last fight a victory over Johnny Hendrick at UFC 167 in 2013 (his ninth consecutive title defence). Many commentators are predicting that this fight will be determined by St-Pierre’s fitness having been out of the octagon for so long and moving up in weight. With an entertaining card throughout the night it should make for an exciting climax.
