<a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/sport-cricket/team-loughborough-lightning-1">Loughborough Lightning</a> was a women’s cricket team representing the East Midlands in England’s Kia Women’s Cricket <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/sport-rugby-league/competition-super-league">Super League</a> from 2016 to 2019. The professional T20 competition brought together regional sides and international players, giving <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/sport-netball/team-lightning-1">Lightning</a> a platform to face teams including <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/sport-cricket/team-western-storm">Western Storm</a>, <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/sport-cricket/team-southern-vipers">Southern Vipers</a> and <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/city-surrey">Surrey</a> Stars. The club did not win the <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/sport-rugby-league/competition-super-league">Super League</a> title, but its squads featured leading cricketers such as <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/sport-cricket/team-southern-vipers">Southern Vipers</a>2 internationals Amy Jones and <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/city-georgia">Georgia</a> Elwiss, <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/sport-cricket/team-new-zealand-1">New Zealand</a> all-rounder Sophie Devine, Australian star Ellyse Perry and <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/sport-cricket/team-west-indies">West Indies</a> player Hayley <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/city-matthews">Matthews</a>. <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/sport-netball/team-lightning-1">Lightning</a> played home fixtures at the <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/stadium-haslegrave-ground">Haslegrave Ground</a> on the <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/city-loughborough">Loughborough</a> University campus, a venue closely associated with the team’s university-based cricket programme. The <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/sport-rugby-league/competition-super-league">Super League</a> ended after the 2019 season as English women’s domestic cricket moved to a new regional structure in 2020. <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/sport-cricket/team-loughborough-lightning-1">Loughborough Lightning</a> therefore remains an important part of the competition’s history, helping showcase elite women’s T20 cricket and develop regional talent before the launch of the current professional setup.
