Italy women’s national basketball team, known as the Azzurre, represents Italy in international women’s basketball and is governed by the Italian Basketball Federation. The team competes in FIBA EuroBasket Women, the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup and Olympic qualifying tournaments, with appearances at the Olympic Games. Its greatest continental achievement is winning the 1938 European Championship, the first edition of the women’s tournament; Italy has also earned EuroBasket silver in 1995 and bronze in 1974. The Azzurre finished fourth at the 1975 World Cup and at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Notable players include Cecilia Zandalasini, a leading scorer of the modern era, and former stars Catarina Pollini and Raffaella Masciadri. The roster changes by competition, bringing together experienced professionals and emerging Italian talent. Unlike club sides, Italy’s national team does not have one permanent home stadium: it hosts games in venues around the country, with the selected arena depending on the fixture and event. Fans can follow the team’s results, tournament schedule, player statistics and qualification campaigns through FIBA and federation coverage. Italy’s blend of international experience and homegrown prospects makes the Azzurre a prominent presence in European women’s basketball.
