The <a href="/sport-american-football/team-houston-gamblers">Houston Gamblers</a> were a professional American football team that played in the <a href="/country-united-states">United States</a> Football League (<a href="/sport-american-football/competition-usfl">USFL</a>) from 1984 to 1985. Based in <a href="/ctiy-houston">Houston</a>, <a href="/ctiy-texas">Texas</a>, the Gamblers were known for their high-powered offense led by quarterback Jim Kelly and wide receivers Ricky Sanders and Richard Johnson. The team was renowned for its exciting and innovative "Run and Shoot" offense, which emphasized passing and spread out the defense. Under the leadership of head coach Jack Pardee, the Gamblers enjoyed great success in the USFL, finishing with a record of 24 wins and 12 losses. However, due to financial problems and the eventual collapse of the USFL, the team folded after just two seasons. Despite their short existence, the Houston Gamblers left a lasting impact on the world of football, with many of their players going on to have successful careers in the National Football League (<a href="/sport-american-football/competition-nfl">NFL</a>).
