The Portugal Grand Prix is a major motorsport event with a long history in Formula One, where teams and drivers compete on Portuguese circuits for championship points. Recent Formula One editions took place at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, also known as the Algarve International Circuit, near Portimão. Opened in 2008, the circuit measures 4.653 kilometres and features 15 turns, elevation changes and a steep downhill approach to the final corner. It is a racing circuit rather than a conventional stadium, with grandstands and trackside viewing areas for spectators. The Portuguese Grand Prix returned to the Formula One calendar in 2020 and 2021, with Lewis Hamilton winning both races for Mercedes. The field in those seasons included leading teams such as Mercedes, Red Bull Racing, Ferrari and McLaren, alongside drivers including Max Verstappen, Valtteri Bottas and Charles Leclerc. Earlier Formula One Portuguese Grands Prix were held at Estoril from 1984 to 1996, adding to the event’s motorsport heritage. Race details, participating teams and driver line-ups vary by edition, making the Portugal Grand Prix a notable fixture for fans following Formula One history and international racing.
