Paris–Nice is a prestigious professional road cycling stage race in France, traditionally held in March and often known as the “Race to the Sun.” The event usually begins in or near Paris and finishes in Nice, taking riders across varied terrain, from flat roads suited to sprinters to hilly stages and challenging mountain climbs that test overall contenders. Rather than taking place in a stadium, each stage starts and finishes in towns or cities along the route, with roads serving as the competition venue and public viewing areas. The peloton features leading UCI WorldTeams and invited professional teams, whose riders compete for the overall title as well as stage wins and points classifications. The field changes each year, but typically includes elite climbers, time-trial specialists, sprinters and versatile all-rounders. Famous past winners include cycling greats such as Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx and Sean Kelly, while modern editions attract many of the sport’s top stage racers. With tactical team riding, varied stages and a dramatic finish on the Côte d’Azur, Paris–Nice is a key early-season fixture on the international cycling calendar.
