The Rolex Australia2 Hobart Yacht Race is an annual offshore sailing event that starts in Australia2, Australia, on 26 December and finishes in Hobart, Tasmania. Organized by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia in association with the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, the race covers approximately 628 nautical miles through the Tasman Sea and the challenging Bass Strait. First held in 1945, it attracts sailing teams from Australia and overseas, competing aboard yachts of different sizes and designs. Each boat is crewed by sailors who manage navigation, sail changes and demanding conditions throughout the race; there are no individual players or conventional stadium. Instead, Sydney Harbour provides the spectacular starting venue, while the open ocean forms the course and Hobart’s Constitution Dock hosts the finish. Teams compete for line honours, awarded to the first yacht to complete the course, and for handicap trophies that recognize corrected-time performance across different yacht classes. Sponsored by Rolex, the race is one of the world’s best-known offshore sailing competitions and a major fixture on Australia’s sporting calendar. Fans can follow the fleet’s progress, race conditions and finishing results through official event coverage.
