Olympiacos FC is a professional football club based in Piraeus, Greece, and one of the country’s most successful and widely supported teams. Founded in 1925, the club competes in the Greek Super League and regularly appears in domestic cup competitions and UEFA tournaments. Olympiacos holds the record for Greek league championships, with 48 titles, and has won 28 Greek Cups, including multiple domestic doubles. In 2024, it made history by winning the UEFA Europa Conference League, becoming the first Greek club to claim a major European men’s club trophy. The team plays its home matches at Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus, a modern football venue with a capacity of approximately 33,000. Olympiacos has featured prominent players from Greece and abroad, including long-serving midfielder Predrag Djordjevic and Brazilian playmaker Giovanni, while its squads continue to attract talent from across Europe and beyond. Known by the nickname “Thrylos,” meaning “Legend,” the club is recognized for its passionate supporters, distinctive red-and-white colors, and intense rivalry with Panathinaikos. Asteras Tripolis is a professional football club from Tripoli, in Greece’s Arcadia region. Founded in 1931, the club competes in the Greek Super League, the country’s top division, and also takes part in domestic cup competitions. Asteras reached the Greek Cup final in 2013, finishing as runners-up, and recorded third-place league finishes in the 2012–13 and 2014–15 seasons. Those strong league campaigns helped establish the club among Greece’s notable teams outside the traditional leading sides. Asteras has also represented Greece in UEFA competition, including the Europa League group stage in 2014–15. Its home ground is Theodoros Kolokotronis Stadium, located in Tripoli and named after the Greek military leader and national hero. The stadium holds approximately 7,400 spectators and hosts the team’s home fixtures. Over the years, the club has featured players such as Pablo De Blasis, Jerónimo Barrales and Greece international Dimitris Kourbelis, who have contributed to its domestic and European campaigns. Asteras Tripolis is known for its yellow-and-blue colors and for building a competitive presence in Greek football while representing the Peloponnese region.
