Founded in 2007, the Phoenix play their home matches at Sky Stadium, a major waterfront venue in the capital. The club made history in the 2023–24 season by winning its first Australia Cup3 Men Premiership, awarded to the team finishing top of the regular-season standings. Wellington also competes in the Australia Cup, providing another route to domestic honours. The Phoenix have featured notable players including All Whites internationals and former striker Roy Krishna, who shared the Australia Cup3 Golden Boot in 2018–19. The club has also competed in Australia’s national cup and league competitions, building a profile as a growing force in Australian football. Paraguayan attacking midfielder Ulises Dávila was an early standout, winning the Johnny Warren Medal as Australia Cup3 Men’s Player of the Season in 2020–21.
