Rio Ave FC is a professional football club from Vila do Conde, in northern Portugal, founded in 1939. Known as the Vilacondenses, the team wears green and white and competes in Portugal’s top divisions, including the Primeira Liga, as well as the Taça de Portugal and Taça da Liga. Rio Ave has reached the Portuguese Cup final twice, in 1984–85 and 2013–14, and finished runner-up in the League Cup in 2013–14. Its best Primeira Liga finishes include fifth place, achieved in 1981–82 and 2017–18. These strong domestic campaigns have also earned the club places in European competition, including the UEFA Europa League. Rio Ave plays its home matches at Estádio do Rio Ave FC, located in Vila do Conde, where supporters gather to back the team throughout the season. The club has helped develop and showcase notable Portuguese footballers, including Fábio Coentrão, and has also featured players such as goalkeeper Ederson during his career. With a proud local identity, a history of cup-final appearances and experience in Portugal’s leading competitions, Rio Ave remains an established presence in Portuguese football.

FC Arouca is a Portuguese professional football club based in Arouca, in the Aveiro District. Founded in 1951, the club competes in Portugal’s national league system and has established itself in the Primeira Liga after earning promotion back to the top flight in 2021. Arouca achieved its strongest Primeira Liga finish in 2022–23, placing fifth and securing a place in UEFA Conference League qualifying. The club plays home matches at Estádio Municipal de Arouca, a compact venue with a capacity of approximately 5,000 spectators, set among the hills of northern Portugal. Its rise through the divisions has brought regional recognition and made it a notable example of a smaller club competing against the country’s traditional powerhouses. Recent Arouca squads have featured players such as David Simão, Rafa Mújica and Cristo González, although line-ups change from season to season. The team is known for its yellow-and-blue colours and competitive approach, while supporters follow its domestic league campaign and cup matches.
