Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, commonly known as Union SG, is a historic football club based in the Brussels municipality of Saint-Gilles. Founded in 1897, the club competes in Belgium’s top division, the Belgian Pro League, and plays home matches at the Joseph Marien Stadium in Forest, a ground known for its distinctive art deco architecture. Union is among Belgium’s most successful teams, with 12 national league championships, including its 2024–25 title, which ended a 90-year wait for a league crown. The club has also won the Belgian Cup three times, most recently in 2024. After a long spell outside the top flight, Union returned to Belgium’s elite in 2021 and quickly re-established itself as a regular contender for domestic honours and European qualification. Recent notable players have included captain Christian Burgess, goalkeeper Anthony Moris and forward Promise David, although squad membership changes between seasons. The team’s yellow-and-blue colours and passionate supporter base make it a prominent part of Brussels football culture. With its historic stadium, celebrated comeback and growing presence in European competitions, Union Saint-Gilloise is one of Belgian football’s most compelling clubs.

Royal Charleroi Sporting Club, commonly known as Charleroi or Sporting Charleroi, is a Belgian professional football team based in the city of Charleroi. Founded in 1904, the club is nicknamed Les Zèbres, or the Zebras, after its black-and-white colours. Charleroi competes in Belgium’s top flight, the Belgian Pro League, where it regularly faces leading clubs from across the country. Its strongest league finish was second place in the 1968–69 Belgian First Division, and the team has also reached the Belgian Cup final, finishing runner-up in 1978 and 1993. The club plays its home matches at the Stade du Pays de Charleroi, a modern venue that hosted games during UEFA Euro 2000 and has a capacity of around 15,000. Charleroi has developed and welcomed players from Belgium and abroad, including Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, who impressed during a loan spell in the 2018–19 season. Known for its passionate supporters and distinctive zebra identity, Sporting Charleroi remains an established presence in Belgian football and a prominent sporting institution in the Hainaut region.
