Uganda is a country located in East Africa, well-known for its involvement in sports such as football, cricket, rugby, basketball, and athletics. The country has hosted some major international sporting events, including the 2017 IAAF World Cross Country Championships‎, the 2011 and 2013 ICC Africa Twenty20 Division One Championships, and the multiple editions of the CECAFA Cup. The country’s men’s national football team has also qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations many times, with their best result coming in 1978, where they finished as runners-up to Ghana. Famous sportspeople from the country include athletes Stephen Kiprotich and John Akii-Bua, footballers Phillip Omondi and Majid Musisi, and boxer Phillip Omondi.
