The Grampians Trophy was a women’s professional tennis tournament held at Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Australia, from 3 to 7 February 2021. Staged as a WTA 500 event on outdoor hard courts, it was added to the calendar to provide competition for players who had completed a strict 14-day hotel quarantine ahead of the Australian Open. The tournament featured a singles draw of leading international players, including Jennifer Brady, Maria Sakkari, Anett Kontaveit and Ann Li; tennis is an individual sport, so competitors represented themselves rather than team sides. Melbourne Park, home of the Australian Open, provided the stadium and court facilities for the event. The Grampians Trophy’s schedule was affected by the compressed lead-up to the Grand Slam, and the semifinals were not played. As a result, the four semifinalists shared the available ranking points and prize money, and no singles champion was crowned. The event remains notable as a one-off addition to the 2021 tennis season, created in response to pandemic travel and quarantine arrangements. Fans searching for Grampians Trophy results, players, venue and tournament history will find its story closely connected to Melbourne Park and the unusual circumstances of that Australian summer.
