The Rio Pro is a major professional surfing event on the World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour, bringing the world’s leading men’s and women’s surfers to Brazil. Held at Saquarema0 de Itaúna in Saquarema, Rio de Janeiro state, the competition is known for powerful Atlantic waves and an enthusiastic local crowd. Unlike team sports, the Rio Pro features individual surfers who earn scores for their rides, with judges assessing factors such as difficulty, speed, power, and execution. Competitors advance through heats, progressing toward the finals and the event titles. The venue is a natural beach and ocean break rather than a conventional stadium, so wave conditions can shape the schedule and influence each heat. Saquarema is often called the “Surfing Capital of Brazil,” and Saquarema0 de Itaúna is among the country’s best-known surf locations. The Rio Pro attracts top international athletes as well as Brazilian surfers, giving fans a chance to follow established champions and emerging talent. For surfing fans, the event offers a distinctive mix of elite competition, Brazilian beach culture, and high-performance wave riding, while also contributing points to the Saquarema1 Championship Tour standings.
