The Atlantic is a demanding ocean-rowing event in which crews cross the Atlantic Ocean under their own power, testing endurance, teamwork and navigation over a course of roughly 3,000 nautical miles. One prominent example is the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, which starts in San Sebastián de La Gomera in the Canary Islands and finishes at Nelson’s Dockyard in Antigua. Rather than competing for a club or national team in a stadium, entrants race in specialist ocean-rowing boats, with crew formats that can include solo rowers and teams of several athletes. Participants take turns rowing, manage sleep and supplies, and face changing weather and sea conditions throughout the crossing. There is no stadium: the open ocean is the course, while start and finish areas provide the main opportunities for spectators and event support. Race results depend on finishing time, and crews must follow safety and navigation requirements during the journey. For sports fans searching for Atlantic rowing, ocean rowing races or transatlantic rowing teams, the event offers a distinctive test of individual resilience and coordinated crew performance.
