The World Athletics Indoor Championships is a major international track and field competition where elite athletes represent their countries in indoor events. Organized by World Athletics, the championships feature individual contests rather than club teams, with runners, jumpers and throwers competing for medals and national records. The program typically includes sprint and middle-distance races, hurdles, relay events, high jump, pole vault, long jump, triple jump, shot put and combined events. Unlike outdoor championships, indoor races are held on a 200-metre track, and some disciplines use formats adapted to the arena. The event takes place every two years, with the host city and stadium changing from edition to edition; competitions are staged in indoor arenas equipped for athletics, not at one permanent venue. The first edition was held in 1985 in Paris, and the championships have since showcased leading Olympic and world champions alongside emerging international talent. Fans following the World Indoor Championships can find event schedules, participating nations, athlete profiles, results, medal tables and records. Its compact format and close competition make the meet a key fixture on the global athletics calendar and an important test early in the outdoor season.
