Milano–Sanremo is a classic professional road cycling race held annually in Italy and a major event on the UCI WorldTour calendar. Often called “La Classicissima,” the men’s race covers roughly 290 kilometres from Milan to the Ligurian coast, making it one of the longest one-day races in elite cycling. Rather than competing in a stadium, riders race along public roads, with the finish traditionally located on Via Roma in Sanremo. Teams bring rosters of professional cyclists, combining a protected leader with teammates who help manage pace, positioning and attacks throughout the race. The route is generally flat for much of its distance, but the decisive late climbs—the Cipressa and the Poggio di Sanremo—often shape the outcome. Riders may try to break away on these ascents, while sprinters aim to stay with the front group for a fast finish. Tactics, endurance and careful teamwork are central to the contest. Milano–Sanremo attracts leading international teams and riders, along with cycling fans who follow its route, results and race-day strategy. It is one of the five prestigious Monuments of cycling.
