<a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/country-united-kingdom/city-london-1">London</a> has a rich cycling history, hosting major road, track and BMX competitions that attract elite riders and spectators from around the world. At the <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/country-united-kingdom/city-london-1">London</a> 2012 Olympic Games, cyclists competed in several events across the city: road races began and finished on The Mall, time trials took place around <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/country-united-kingdom/city-hampton-1">Hampton</a> Court Palace, and track cycling was held at the <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/country-united-kingdom/city-london-1">London</a> Velodrome in <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/stadium-queen-elizabeth-olympic-park">Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park</a>. The velodrome remains a prominent venue for international track cycling and community sport. Unlike football, cycling does not usually involve fixed club teams playing in a stadium; competitors represent national teams, professional teams or themselves, depending on the event. Well-known riders who have raced in <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/country-united-kingdom/city-london-1">London</a> include British Olympic champion <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/sport-basketball/team-bradley">Bradley</a> Wiggins and <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/sport-cycling/competition-tour-de-france">Tour de France</a> winner Chris Froome, alongside leading international cyclists. <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/country-united-kingdom/city-london-1">London</a> also welcomed the 2007 <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/sport-cycling/competition-tour-de-france">Tour de France</a> Grand Départ, with the opening stages bringing the world’s top teams and riders to the capital. For visitors searching for <a href="https://www.fixturecalendar.com/country-united-kingdom/city-london-1">London</a> cycling events, the city offers a combination of landmark routes, purpose-built facilities and a strong sporting legacy.
