The 2019 UCI Road World Championships in Yorkshire brought the world’s leading cyclists to northern England from 22 to 29 September. Hosted by the Union Cycliste Internationale, the event featured national teams competing in road races, individual time trials and the mixed team relay across multiple age categories. Riders represented their countries rather than professional trade teams, with each nation selecting eligible athletes for the championship races. The courses crossed Yorkshire towns and countryside, including Leeds, Bradford, Harrogate and other local communities, before many races finished on a circuit in Harrogate. There was no central stadium: the roads themselves served as the competition venue, with start areas and finish facilities arranged in host towns. The championships included elite men’s and women’s events, as well as under-23 and junior races, and awarded the winners the UCI rainbow jersey, one of cycling’s most recognizable prizes. The Yorkshire Road World Championships combined demanding climbs, technical roads and a town-centre finish, drawing international attention to the region and offering spectators opportunities to watch world-class road cycling along the route.
