The Solheim Cup is a biennial women’s professional golf competition featuring teams from the United States and Europe. First played in 1990, the event is named after Karsten and Louise Solheim, whose family founded golf-equipment company PING. Each side is led by a captain and includes 12 players selected through qualifying points and captain’s picks, with golfers drawn from the LPGA Tour and Ladies European Tour. Unlike a regular stroke-play tournament, the Solheim Cup is decided by match play: players compete for individual matches in foursomes and four-ball sessions before the competition concludes with singles matches. The 28 available points make every match important, and the team that reaches 14½ points wins; if the score is tied, the defending champion retains the Cup. There is no permanent stadium for the event. Instead, it rotates between golf courses in the United States and Europe, with the host venue changing for each edition. This changing location, the international rivalry and the participation of leading players make the Solheim Cup one of the most prominent events in women’s golf. Fans can follow team announcements, pairings, course details and match results as the competition approaches.
