The World Snooker Championship is the sport’s most prestigious annual tournament, bringing the leading professional snooker players to Sheffield, England, for a test of precision, strategy and endurance. First staged in 1927, the modern championship is traditionally held each spring at the Crucible Theatre, its celebrated home since 1977. The main draw features 32 players in a knockout format: the top-ranked competitors qualify automatically, while others earn places through qualifying rounds. Matches are played over multiple frames, with longer contests in the later rounds and the final, rewarding consistency as well as skill under pressure. Players compete individually rather than as teams, aiming to pot red and coloured balls, build high breaks and progress toward the world title. The event attracts established champions, rising talents and a global television audience, making it a major fixture on the professional snooker calendar. This guide offers useful information about the World Snooker Championship, including its venue, tournament format, players, schedule and results, for fans following the action in Sheffield and around the world.
