The Yngling Open World Championship is an international sailing competition featuring the Yngling, a compact keelboat raced by crews of three. Designed by Norwegian naval architect Jan Herman Linge, the boat is about 6.35 metres long and rewards teamwork, tactical decision-making and precise sail handling. Unlike a stadium-based sport, the championship is held on marked racecourses set in coastal or inland waters, with the host venue changing between editions. Teams compete in a series of fleet races, navigating a course of buoys while responding to wind, waves and shifting weather conditions. Each crew typically includes a helm and two teammates, whose coordination is essential for manoeuvres such as tacking and rounding marks. The event is open to competitors under the championship’s applicable class and race rules, and results are determined by accumulated points across the regatta. Yngling sailing is also notable for its Olympic history: the boat was used in the women’s keelboat event at the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games. For sailors and fans, the Yngling Open World Championship offers high-level one-design racing, where equipment is closely matched and crew skill can make the difference.
