The RS:X Windsurfing World Championships are an international sailing competition for elite windsurfers racing the RS:X board, a windsurfing class that featured at the Olympic Games from 2008 through 2020. The championship typically includes separate men’s and women’s fleets, with athletes representing national sailing teams and competing for individual world titles. Unlike stadium-based sports, RS:X racing takes place on an open-water course set by race officials, with the venue changing between editions and conditions shaped by wind, waves, and weather. Competitors use the same class of board and sail, making tactical decisions, speed, balance, and course positioning central to success. Races generally involve a marked course and multiple heats, with final standings determined by points accumulated across the regatta, subject to the event’s scoring rules. The championships bring together experienced Olympic sailors and international contenders, offering a clear measure of performance in one of sailing’s most demanding disciplines. Although the RS:X was replaced in Olympic competition by the iQFOiL class after the Tokyo 2020 Games, RS:X world championship results remain part of the class’s sporting history. Fans searching for RS:X results, competitors, schedules, or host venues should check the relevant event edition, since entries and locations vary from year to year.
