The ORC European Championship is an international sailing competition for offshore racing yachts measured under the Offshore Racing Congress (ORC) rating system. Crews compete in classes based on their boats’ size and performance, allowing yachts with different designs to race on a more comparable basis. Teams typically include a skipper and a coordinated crew responsible for navigation, sail handling and tactics; line-ups and participating countries vary by edition. Races are held at sea on courses set by the organizers, with conditions such as wind, waves and current influencing strategy and results. Unlike field sports, the championship has no stadium: the host port and surrounding waters serve as the event venue, and locations change from year to year. The schedule may include inshore races, offshore passages or a combination, depending on the edition’s format. Results are calculated using ORC ratings, which account for boat characteristics and help determine corrected times. For sailing fans, the ORC European Championship offers a chance to follow elite offshore crews, international yacht teams and competitive European sailing. Check the current event program for confirmed entrants, class divisions, race dates and host venue.
