The ILCA Laser Radial Women World Championship is a premier international sailing competition for women racing the single-handed ILCA 6 dinghy, formerly known as the Laser Radial. Rather than representing club teams in a stadium, sailors compete individually while representing their countries, with national teams typically including athletes, coaches and support staff. The championship venue changes from year to year and is hosted at a coastal or lakeside sailing center; races take place on open water over courses marked by buoys, not in a fixed stadium. Competitors must navigate shifting winds, waves and tactical challenges while completing a series of fleet races. Results are determined by race finishes, with lower points generally indicating stronger performance and a discard applied under the event’s scoring rules. The world title attracts leading international sailors and provides a major test of boat handling, speed, strategy and consistency. Fans can follow the ILCA Laser Radial Women World Championship for race schedules, results, participating nations, athlete profiles and updates from the host venue. The class is now widely called ILCA 6, so both names may appear in championship coverage and historical records.
