The 6m European Championship is a major international sailing competition for the classic 6 Metre yacht class, bringing together crews from across Europe to race for continental honours. Each boat is sailed by a team, with performance depending on the skipper, crew coordination, sail handling and tactical decisions in changing wind and water conditions. Unlike football or athletics events, the championship has no permanent stadium: races take place on a designated course in open water, with the host club and coastal venue changing from one edition to another. The 6 Metre class is a development class, meaning yachts follow a shared rating rule rather than being identical, while still competing under the same class regulations. Championship racing typically features a series of fleet races, and final standings are determined by each yacht’s results across the event, subject to the official scoring rules. For sailing fans, the 6m European Championship offers a close look at classic yacht design, experienced European sailors and high-level tactical racing. Check the event’s official notices for the current venue, participating crews, race schedule and results.
