The 12mR World Championship is an international sailing competition for 12 Metre yachts, classic racing boats built to a measurement rule rather than a fixed hull length. Each entry is sailed by a crew whose size and roles depend on the yacht, with teams combining experienced helmsmen, navigators, tacticians and sail handlers. Competitors race in fleets, and results are determined by performance across a series of races under the event’s scoring rules. The championship venue changes between editions, so there is no permanent stadium; races take place on a marked course in coastal or sheltered waters selected by the host club. Shoreline locations provide viewing opportunities, while wind, waves and course layout can affect race tactics. The 12 Metre class is known for its association with prestigious yacht racing, including the America’s Cup era from 1958 to 1987, and its boats remain active in classic yacht regattas worldwide. For sailing fans, the 12mR World Championship offers close competition, historic designs and skilled crew work. Entry lists, participating yachts, race schedules and host venues vary by year, so consult the official event information for the latest championship details.
