Sailing in France is a major international sporting event, combining elite competition with the country’s strong maritime tradition. At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, sailing took place at the Marseille Marina, a purpose-built coastal venue rather than a traditional stadium, with races held in the Mediterranean Sea. National teams competed across multiple boat and board classes, including dinghy, skiff, multihull and windsurfing events, where sailors were ranked by their results over a series of races. The French sailing team represented the host nation and featured experienced athletes such as Charline Picon and Sarah Steyaert, who won bronze in the women’s 49er FX. Competitors from around the world tested their speed, tactics and ability to respond to changing wind and water conditions. Marseille’s harbour provided spectator facilities and a central base for teams, officials and event operations, while the race courses extended offshore. For fans searching for sailing in France, the event offers a clear example of how Olympic sailing combines individual skill, teamwork and technical expertise in a distinctive open-water setting. France continues to be an important destination for sailing competitions and training.
