The Cervantes Trophy is a Western Australian offshore sailing event that takes competing yachts from the Perth coast to the fishing town of Cervantes, north of the city. Unlike a stadium-based sport, the race is staged at sea, with the course and conditions shaping the challenge for each crew. Teams are formed around individual yachts, bringing together skippers and sailors responsible for navigation, sail handling and boat preparation. Entrants may compete in different yacht classes, so results are assessed according to the event’s sailing rules and class arrangements rather than through fixed club teams or individual players. The race is associated with the state’s offshore sailing calendar and offers crews a test of planning, endurance and teamwork in open-water conditions. Cervantes, on the Indian Ocean coast, provides the destination and a distinctive finish for this coastal passage. Weather, wind strength and sea state can influence race strategy and progress, making each edition a different contest. For sailing fans seeking details on the Cervantes Trophy, its competitors, yacht classes, route and offshore setting, the event is a notable fixture in Western Australian yacht racing.
