Annual Pursuit Race Explore the latest Annual Pursuit Race information from the Royal Ocean Racing Club Regattas at your fingertips

The Annual Pursuit Race is a sailing event in which participating boats start at staggered times, with slower-rated vessels generally setting off before faster ones. The start order and intervals are calculated using each boat’s handicap or performance rating, creating a competitive finish in which crews race to cross the line first. Teams typically consist of a skipper and crew members responsible for steering, sail handling and navigation; the specific competitors, boat classes and team entries depend on the event’s organizer and year. Unlike sports played in a stadium, the race takes place on a designated water course, such as a lake, harbor or coastal route, with start and finish lines marked by buoys or race committee vessels. Course length, wind conditions and sailing instructions can vary between editions, so competitors should consult the official notice of race for current details. For sailing fans, the Annual Pursuit Race offers an accessible way to follow handicap racing, compare team tactics and watch changing wind and water conditions shape the result. Check the organizer’s published schedule and results for confirmed venue, entrants and race information.
