The World Rowing Indoor Championships is an international rowing competition organized by World Rowing, bringing elite athletes and age-group competitors together to race on indoor rowing machines, also known as ergometers. Unlike traditional regattas, the championships take place on land, with competitors racing for set distances or durations rather than rowing on open water. Events typically include individual races across multiple categories, with classifications based on age, weight, and ability, as well as team relay races in which national squads combine their efforts. Athletes represent countries and rowing clubs, making the championships a showcase for both established rowing nations and emerging competitors. The inaugural edition was held in 2018, and the event has since used different formats, including virtual racing in some years. There is no permanent stadium: the host venue varies by edition and may be an indoor arena or exhibition center, while virtual events allow athletes to compete from remote locations. Fans can follow race results, athlete performances, team standings, and event updates through World Rowing’s official channels.
