The Austin Championship refers to the PGA Tour’s World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play, a major professional golf event staged at Austin Country Club in Austin, Texas, from 2016 to 2023. Unlike stroke-play tournaments, the competition used match play: golfers competed head-to-head, with each hole won, lost, or tied, and a knockout bracket determined the champion. The field featured leading international players rather than teams, including Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Jason Day, Billy Horschel, Scottie Scheffler, and Sam Burns. Austin Country Club, located beside Lake Austin, provided a distinctive venue with a course designed by Pete Dye, featuring strategic hazards and dramatic elevation changes. Past Austin-era champions included Day in 2016, Johnson in 2017, Horschel in 2021, Scheffler in 2022, and Burns in 2023. The tournament was not held in 2020, and the PGA Tour ended the Match Play event after its 2023 edition. Golf fans searching for Austin Championship results, players, venue details, or tournament history can explore its memorable match-play format and its place in Austin’s sporting calendar.
