The Barracuda Championship is a professional golf tournament known for its distinctive format and scenic mountain setting in Truckee, California. Played at Tahoe Mountain Club’s Old Greenwood course, the event brings together individual PGA Tour professionals rather than teams, with the field typically featuring established tour players and emerging competitors. Instead of conventional stroke-play scoring, the tournament uses the Modified Stableford system: golfers earn points for strong results, while mistakes cost points, creating an aggressive style of play. Old Greenwood, designed by Jack Nicklaus, offers a challenging championship layout framed by the Sierra Nevada landscape, with elevation changes, tree-lined holes and strategic hazards testing players’ accuracy and course management. The event began in 1999 as the Reno-Tahoe Open and was played at Montreux Golf & Country Club before moving to Old Greenwood in 2020. Its unusual scoring, competitive PGA Tour field and Northern California location make the Barracuda Championship a distinctive stop in professional golf. Fans can follow player performances, tournament standings and course highlights as golfers compete for the title.
