Paralympic rowing, also known as Para rowing, is a fast-paced international sport in which athletes race over a 2,000-metre course in specially adapted boats. National teams compete in events organised by sport classes that account for eligible impairments and the physical demands of each boat. The programme includes PR1 men’s and women’s single sculls, PR2 mixed double sculls, and PR3 mixed double sculls and mixed coxed fours. PR1 rowers use their arms and shoulders and may have their trunks secured to the seat; PR2 and PR3 athletes use different combinations of arm, trunk and leg movement, with equipment adapted where required. Each crew combines individual skill, timing and teamwork, while a coxswain steers and directs the PR3 coxed four. Paralympic rowing is held on a marked watercourse rather than in a stadium, with spectators watching from the shoreline and grandstands where available. The host venue changes from one Games to the next; at Paris 2024, races took place at the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium. Results, schedules, athlete profiles and team information help fans follow every race and understand how Paralympic rowing is contested.
