The MLB Draft is Major League Baseball’s annual event for selecting eligible amateur players, bringing together all 30 teams to add promising talent to their organizations. Clubs choose players from high schools, colleges, and junior colleges in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories, including Puerto Rico. The draft typically features 20 rounds, with selection order shaped by the previous season’s results and a lottery for certain early picks. Teams use their selections to strengthen farm systems, address roster needs, and pursue future stars, though drafted players may take several years to reach the major leagues. Notable MLB Draft prospects often include standout pitchers, power hitters, catchers, and versatile position players. Unlike a regular-season baseball game, the draft is not tied to a permanent stadium: its venue changes, and the event may be hosted in a city or presented in a studio setting. Draft coverage offers fans a close look at team strategy, player backgrounds, scouting evaluations, and the first steps in professional baseball careers.
