The Taipei Marathon is one of Taiwan’s largest annual road-running events, bringing elite and recreational athletes together on the streets of Taipei. Usually held in December, the race features a full marathon and a half-marathon, with courses passing landmarks such as Taipei 101, the Presidential Office Building and the riverside roads. Unlike a team sport, the Taipei Marathon is contested primarily by individual runners: professional and elite athletes compete for the leading positions, while thousands of local and international participants take part in their own age groups and divisions. There is no single stadium hosting the competition; Taipei City Hall serves as the start and finish area, and the city’s roads form the race venue. The event is recognized on the international road-racing calendar and attracts strong Taiwanese contenders alongside runners from abroad. For spectators, the marathon offers a chance to watch high-level distance running and experience Taipei’s urban scenery. Runners should check the official event website for the current race date, course map, registration details, entry requirements and road-closure information, as schedules and arrangements may change each year.
