The Rotterdam Marathon, officially known as the NN Rotterdam Marathon, is one of the Netherlands’ best-known athletics events and attracts elite distance runners and thousands of amateur participants from around the world. First held in 1981, the annual 42.195-kilometre race is staged on city streets rather than inside a stadium. The course is known for its relatively flat profile and fast times, making Rotterdam a popular setting for marathon personal bests and record attempts. Runners cross the Erasmus Bridge and pass notable urban landmarks before reaching the finish on Coolsingel in the city centre. There are no competing club teams in the usual team-sport sense; the field includes individual athletes representing their countries, running clubs or sponsors, alongside recreational runners. Elite participants often include internationally ranked marathoners, while the mass race welcomes entrants across a wide range of ages and abilities. Spectators line sections of the route to support the runners, and race-day services provide information about registration, schedules, transport and course access. For fans searching for Rotterdam Marathon results, route details, elite runners and event information, the race offers a major annual celebration of road running in the Netherlands.
