The Midnight Sun Marathon is an annual athletics event held in Tromsø, northern Norway, where summer daylight allows runners to race beneath the midnight sun. Usually staged in June, the event attracts elite athletes, club runners and recreational participants from Norway and around the world. It is an individual road race rather than a team competition, so results are recorded by runner and race category. Alongside the full marathon, the programme typically includes shorter distances such as a half marathon and 10-kilometre race, giving participants several ways to take part. The course runs through Tromsø’s urban streets and surrounding scenery, with views of the city, mountains and coastal landscape. Unlike track athletics, the marathon does not take place in a stadium; the city’s streets form the competition venue, with start and finish areas in central Tromsø. The Midnight Sun Marathon is known for its unusual light conditions, international field and distinctive Arctic setting. For spectators and runners seeking information about race distances, course conditions and event atmosphere, it is one of Norway’s best-known summer road-running events.
