The Kilimanjaro Marathon is an annual road-running event held in Moshi, Tanzania, near the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. Often called the Kilimanjaro Premium Lager International Marathon, it brings together elite athletes, club runners, recreational participants, and visitors from Tanzania and around the world. The program typically features a full marathon, a half marathon, and a shorter fun run, giving runners of different abilities a chance to take part. Unlike a mountain race, the marathon follows a road course through Moshi and nearby communities, with views of Kilimanjaro on clear days. Moshi Stadium serves as the event’s central start and finish venue, where runners, supporters, and organizers gather on race day. The competition is primarily an individual athletics event rather than a contest between professional teams, although clubs and groups often enter together. The race is known for its welcoming atmosphere, local community support, and scenic setting. For sports fans and runners researching Tanzanian athletics, the Kilimanjaro Marathon offers an accessible way to experience distance running, regional culture, and one of East Africa’s best-known sporting events.
