The Guangzhou Marathon is an annual road-running event held in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China, usually in December. First staged in 2012, it brings together elite distance runners and recreational athletes for a full marathon and, in selected editions, shorter race categories. Unlike a team sport, the marathon is contested by individual runners, who are ranked by finishing time; professional athletes may represent clubs or countries, while the wider field includes local and international participants. The course runs through the city rather than inside a stadium, showcasing major roads and urban landmarks, with the start and finish locations set by the organizers for each edition. Tianhe Sports Center has served as a prominent event venue and starting area in past races, but the marathon itself takes place on public streets, not on a stadium track. The Guangzhou Marathon is known for its large field, competitive elite race, and fast city course. For current information on the event date, entry rules, route map, elite runners, road closures, and results, consult the official race announcements, since details can change from year to year.
