The Open Championship, widely known as The Open, is one of golf’s four major championships and the oldest championship in professional golf. Organized by The R&A, this annual tournament brings together leading players from around the world to compete for the Claret Jug. Unlike team sports, The Open is an individual stroke-play competition, with golfers playing 72 holes over four days and a cut determining which players advance to the weekend rounds. Its venue is not a fixed stadium: the championship rotates among historic links golf courses in the United Kingdom, including the Old Course at St Andrews, Royal Liverpool, Royal Troon and Royal St George’s. These coastal courses are known for firm fairways, deep bunkers, undulating greens and unpredictable wind, making course strategy and adaptability essential. Past champions include golf greats such as Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Tom Watson, while each edition features the world’s top-ranked professionals alongside qualifying players. Fans following The Open can find tournament dates, player information, course details, tee times and results through official coverage. With its rich history and distinctive links setting, The Open Championship remains a highlight of the global golf calendar.
