The Great Wall Half is a challenging road-running event held on and around the Huangyaguan section of the Great Wall in Tianjin, China. Unlike a stadium-based athletics competition, it takes place on a measured half-marathon course of approximately 21.1 kilometres, combining historic stone paths, steep steps and rural roads. The route tests runners’ endurance and agility, with significant elevation changes and sections that require careful footing. The event is an individual race rather than a contest between professional teams, so participants compete for personal times and age-group or overall results; no fixed teams or star players define the field. Its setting is the historic Great Wall itself, with the surrounding mountain landscape serving as the course’s dramatic backdrop and the race’s defining feature. Runners should prepare for uneven surfaces and demanding climbs, and check the current event information for the official route, start location, entry requirements and schedule, as details may vary by edition. For athletes seeking a distinctive half-marathon in China, The Great Wall Half pairs a demanding endurance challenge with an iconic cultural landmark.
